Do you dread your annual Christmas shopping excursion? The rush… the hustle and bustle of it all?
Why not take your time this year, relax, make a good day of it and grab some gifts that benefit the community.
If you’re in Melbourne, we’ve got a few ideas for you. We’ve even prepared a map, courtesy of our friends at Alpaca maps, to help you leave a trail of good this Christmas.
Make a start at Kinfolk Café. With delicious seasonal ingredients in your brunch, and great coffee, you will be fueled up and ready to go on your day out. Not only will you get a wonderful feed, but the employees are volunteers, and keen to provide a great service, and all profits address social exclusion and support asylum seekers.
Your first shopping stop is only 20 metres along Bourke Street, at The School of Life. Do you know someone who’s keen to step out of their comfort zone, get inspired, or improve their emotional well-being? The School of Life has a wonderful selection of inspiring books, or you could get a voucher for one of many stimulating and open-minded classes.
As you amble through the city’s laneways, follow our map to head past the murals, stencils and street art in Hosier Lane. How very Melbourne is this place? If you’re feeling inspired by what you see, check out Hosier Hoodies’ online store – an apparel brand that celebrates Melbourne’s iconic street art, with proceeds supporting Concern Australia and the homeless.
Feeling creative after checking out the inspiring street art? Or do you want to buy some truly thoughtful presents for the women in your life? The Conscious Closet stocks quality recycled women’s fashion at incredible prices. All your purchases help disadvantaged women find and keep work, and minimise landfill.
You’ll be certain to find a bunch of other treasures on your way around, and by now you might be eager to wind down a little; what better place than the State Library of Victoria, and Melbourne landmark and cultural icon. Take a peek inside at the domed ceiling of the reading room, or look around one of the free permanent exhibitions.
We’d love to hear about how your Good day of Christmas shopping goes, so drop us a line or post some pics from your day on our Facebook page or on Instagram. Be sure to tag our page or use #GoodXmasTrail
