The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that we recently tweaked the line on the homepage of our website (although you may have been distracted by our lovely snow-peeps). We changed it from
Choose to shop with social enterprises
Choose to shop with Good businesses
Why bother?! We hear you cry.
Well, firstly, around the world, “Social Enterprise” takes on many different guises – this is definitely a long story for another time, but you can find our current definition here. And secondly, there are many businesses creating positive change in the world that do not fall strictly into these definitions.
One such group of businesses are certified B Corporations. According to our friends at B Lab Australia (the group responsible for certifying, growing, and promoting the sector) Certified B Corps are:
“… leaders of a global movement of people using business as a force for good.”
We dig the work that B Labs are doing, and have recently welcomed B Corps Reho Travel, Monochrome coffee and Dumbo Feather into the Goodsmiths fold, joining existing B Corp Goodsmiths, Etiko and The School of Life Australia.
You can find out more about the great work these organisations are doing in our recent article How to B Good with your Christmas gifts.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on what constitutes a Good business, and your suggestions for organisations who should be on Goodsmiths, so please contact us here, or get in touch on social media.
