Abbotsford Convent is an inner-city oasis located next to the Yarra river. With over 16 acres to explore and a busy event calendar, it’s worthy of many return visits.

It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely weekend meal, wandering through gardens, and enjoying art exhibitions. You can also hire spaces for your celebrations and business meetings, or attend classes or browse one of their many markets.

Before becoming the arts and culture hub it is today, the site was originally a meeting place for the people of the Kulin Nation, and then a closed monastery for the Good Shepherd Sisters for over a century.

Amongst the artists, gardens and cafes, one of our favourites is Lentil As Anything. A restaurant where you ‘pay as you feel’ for your food, everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can have a decent meal in a welcoming space. We also recommend c3 for contemporary art exhibitions – prepare to be challenged and discover something new. Visit the Abbotsford Convent site to find out what’s coming up soon.

The Abbotsford Convent Foundation is the not-for-profit organisation which manages the grounds and buildings. They exist to ensure the site remains open to all of us in the community, providing a diverse hub for creativity, learning, playing, and coming together.
